The Rivian R1T is the most capable electric off-road truck available. It weighs nearly 7,000 lbs — significantly heavier than the heaviest gas trucks — and its quad-motor system delivers 835hp with instant torque to all four wheels. Every tire on an R1T must handle that load and power.
Common Rivian R1T tire sizes
R1T Standard (2022-current): LT275/65R20 (Adventure, Explore), LT275/60R20 (some trims).
R1T Performance: LT265/70R18 on 18-inch wheel option.
Note: the Rivian OEM tires are Pirelli Scorpion AT+ in LT275/65R20. The Scorpion AT+ was co-developed with Rivian and has specific load ratings for the R1T's weight.
EV-specific R1T requirements
Load rating is critical: the R1T weighs 6,900–7,100 lbs. Every tire must be rated for this load. Load Range E (10-ply) LT-metric tires are the minimum for the R1T's gross weight.
Range impact: the R1T's EPA range is around 314 miles (Max Pack). Aggressive A/T tires with high rolling resistance reduce range by 5–15%. The OEM Pirelli AT+ is optimized to balance off-road capability with acceptable rolling resistance.
Instant quad-motor torque: 835hp across all four wheels on launch creates extreme tire stress. Quality matters.
Best tires
Pirelli Scorpion AT+ LT275/65R20: the OEM choice, co-developed with Rivian. The safest replacement choice given it is specifically engineered for the R1T's weight and power.
BF Goodrich KO2 in LT275/65R20 (Load Range E): the most recommended community upgrade for R1T owners who want more aggressive off-road capability than the AT+.
Michelin Defender LTX M/S in LT275/65R20 (Load Range E): for R1T owners who primarily drive on highway and want maximum tread life.
Frequently asked
How much do Rivian R1T tires cost?
LT275/65R20 premium A/T: $180–280 per tire. A set of four installed: $720–1,120.
Can any A/T tire handle the Rivian R1T's weight?
Only if it is Load Range E (or higher) with the correct load index for the R1T's weight. Many A/T tires in the R1T's size are available in both E and C ratings — you must verify you are purchasing Load Range E. A Load Range C tire on an R1T is a safety risk.
