How Much Does Wheel Alignment Cost?

A standard two-wheel alignment runs $50–100 at most West Georgia tire and service shops. A four-wheel alignment — needed for any AWD, 4WD, or vehicle with independent rear suspension — runs $100–175. Here's what you actually get for that money and when it's necessary.

Two-wheel vs. four-wheel alignment

Two-wheel (front-end) alignment adjusts the front axle only — toe, camber, and caster. This is sufficient for rear-wheel-drive vehicles with a solid rear axle (many trucks and older cars).

Four-wheel alignment adjusts all four corners independently. Required for front-wheel-drive, all-wheel-drive, and any vehicle with independent rear suspension — which is the majority of modern cars and crossovers. If you have an AWD crossover or truck, you need a four-wheel alignment.

What the alignment service actually does

The technician uses a computerized alignment rack to measure the angle of each wheel relative to the vehicle's true center. The three main adjustable angles are: toe (wheels pointing in or out), camber (wheel tilt), and caster (steering axis angle).

Adjustments are made at the tie rods, control arms, and sometimes the subframe. A printout shows before and after specs — any reputable shop will show you this.

Signs you need a wheel alignment

Vehicle pulls left or right on a straight, flat road with hands relaxed on the wheel.

Steering wheel is off-center when driving straight.

Rapid or uneven tire wear — especially on one side of the tire.

After hitting a large pothole or curb hard enough to feel it in the steering.

After any suspension work: struts, control arms, tie rods, wheel bearing replacement.

After a lift or lowering kit — alignment is mandatory after any suspension height change.

Are lifetime alignment packages worth it?

Many shops sell lifetime alignment packages for $150–200. These make sense if you drive on rough roads, pothole-heavy commutes, or if you're doing annual alignment checks as part of tire maintenance. Over 3–4 years, you'd easily break even.

Avoid lifetime packages at shops you're not confident will still be in business or that have poor reviews — the value is only realized by returning to the same location.

Frequently asked

How often should I get a wheel alignment?

Every 12,000–15,000 miles as a preventive measure, or immediately after hitting something hard, after suspension work, or when you notice pulling or uneven tire wear.

Does tire rotation include alignment?

No — rotation and alignment are separate services. Rotation moves tires between positions. Alignment adjusts the angles of the wheels. Most shops offer both but they are priced and performed separately.

Can bad alignment damage my tires?

Yes — misalignment is one of the leading causes of premature tire wear. A vehicle that's just 1° off camber can wear out tires in half the normal lifespan. If you notice feathering, one-sided wear, or rapid tread loss, alignment is the first thing to check.
